Social Media Competition for Windsor EXPO

on 3 May, 2013 No comments as yet -

Social Media Competition for Thames Valley Business EXPO Windsor 13th June 2013… join in the fun if you can drive attendees… obviously just sit back and watch the pros if you’re a light weight ;)

thames valley business exp

Calling Windsor business owners and those planning on attending The Thames Valley Business EXPO… news just in… an opportunity for you to shine in more ways than ONE!

When you attend an exhibition the organisers will hand you a goodie bag as you enter. Mostly full of flyers from exhibitors who have paid for their insertion into the bag… well now is your chance to have your flyer or goodie placed in the bag for FREE… yippee, something for nothing… almost.

The EXPO is on the 13th June and we want to get as many business people as possible registered sooner rather than later… as we stand around 275 are registered to attend, an excellent number 6 weeks out. It would be great to see 500+ pre-registered before the big day…

A goodie bag can only contain a certain number of items… 20 flyers + 5 goodies would make for an excellent gift for the businesses that attend. To make choosing whose flyers & goodies go in the bag fair, we need to run a competition.

What we can monitor is registrations… so it’s a very straightforward competition… those that drive the most registrations get to shine the brightest ;)

• Registrations who say you recommended them score you 20 points
• Tweets containing #WindsorEXPO score 1 point, RTs 2 points
• LinkedIn Updates #WindsorEXPO score 2 points, likes 3 points

I can search Twitter & LinkedIn easily for the #WindsorEXPO, Facebook is not so straight forward but use it and other social media and digital marketing channels, like your newsletter, as registrations introduced by you count 20 points.

Obviously, if you WIN you’ll need to provide a minimum of 500 goodies or flyers…

So let’s get this party started… cut off date is Monday 3rd June 2013… registrations will be counted and verified and the TOP 20 winners made aware of their contribution to the event. The official announcement will be on the day and the actual winner celebrated throughout!

You can register via the link at the top of the EXPO website…

Thank you.

Social Media Award of the Week ending 19th Jan 2013

on 21 January, 2013 No comments as yet -

This week’s Social Media Award of the Week has to go to the Australian Courts for ruling that although Google doesn’t technically publish content because computers are doing all the work… if asked to remove links then they should oblige and respect the wishes of the individual not wishing to be indexed.

“But that would mean we’d have to do some work… Google guys want to hang in the labs, not do real work!” one insider was heard to moan when the announcement came in.

The Guardian reported at the end of November, “Milorad Trkulja, a music promoter, took action against Google over material online, which linked him with criminal figures in Melbourne. Trkulja has never been involved in any criminal activity, but was unfortunate enough to have been shot in a restaurant in 2004.”

It reminded me of the case of Richard O’Dwyer, the student wanted for extradition by the USA and initially signed off by Theresa May MP, who was simply adding links to sources of TV content… he didn’t publish the content… oh, yeah, but he manually added links so I guess that makes him an evil criminal! It was his mum who sorted that out, as all good mums do…

The only reason the yanks wanted him was because he’d made a few quid out of it… so I guess he paid tax in the UK but that’s not good enough for the Americans? The only reason Google have been able to get away with it is because they have bigger lawyers and as we have seen from Big Brother, “USA are best, the greatest, they offer freedom”… mmmm well done Australia.

Everyone loves to win a Social Media Award… so we thought we’d make it more fun in 2013… we’ll give out a social media award of some description every week… if you want to be a winner then you’d better tell us why ;)

Every week I’ll shine a light on a social media campaign that made laugh or cry! Or it might be a thought that grabs my attention, something I think you should ponder…

You need to tweet @jondavey with the reason why you and yours should be a winner… or complete our contact us form with a few words…

Thank you.

Our Social Media Christmas Competition 2012 Award Winners

on 8 December, 2012 No comments as yet -

For 12 working days we ran the Social Media Christmas Competition and after the votes have been counted and verified we have our Social Media Award WINNERS for December 2012.

I used 12 days because it was a Christmas competition and I like working around rhythms in my head, they resonate better for me and probably for others.

We didn’t get a ton of votes because most folk CBA… they are thinking, “I’ll never win, I never win anything” ;( and so don’t enter in the first place… not the attitude of a WINNER…

I knew before I even posted the competition who would win at least one of the prizes. A guy who is constantly on the go, pushing his current brand as far and wide as he can, ensuring he is on the radar of decision makers… a firm believer in “something has to happen” if you keep peddling… he presented at our BinB EXPO earlier in the year and I caught this footage of him at CompTIA a few weeks ago where he earned this pitch by knocking Microsoft into 2nd place!

AND OUR SOCIAL MEDIA AWARD WINNERS FOR 2012 ARE:

Best LinkedIn Group : Channel & Account Management Experts (run by guess who!)

Most Influential Business Person “Thought Leader” on LinkedIn : Ian Moyse

Best Offline Events run by a LinkedIn Group : NRG Networks

When it comes to networking lunches then those run by NRG Networks are second to none. Always a good cross section of business professionals in attendance… you should ask Dave Clarke if you can attend one near you soon… I shot this footage at a question and answer session after the main event… most folk had left to do the next thing on their to do list but this captures the essence of NRG Networks. Go join their LinkedIn Group.

The key to being a Social Media Award WINNER is you have to enter… I won Social Media Week’s Personality of the Year in February because I took time to enter with this video… vote4me.org.uk

This has lead to a number of opportunities which have included doing some work for LinkedIn & IBM as a direct result… so don’t miss out on opportunities to shine more brightly than you do right now and enter the relevant competitions that come your way… you just don’t know where they may lead…

AND SO WHAT DO OUR WINNERS WIN?

As I read through this year’s entries there was one that made me Laugh Out Loud… and that was for @warpdog who are the unofficial Walthamstow Tourist Board who shot this amazing visitor attraction video… watch out for the CGI and augmented reality ;)

Or maybe that is the reality…

Each of our winners will receive one of the LIMITED EDITION Mattresses of Walthamstow 2013 Calendars… and better still, you don’t have to worry about not having your very own copy, you can order them online… you’re just a click away…

Mattresses of Walthamstow 2013 Calendar

If you want to be a sponsor of our next Social Media Awards 2013, which will probably happen in January, assuming we’re all still around after the 21st December, then you’d best get in touch with me via phone, email or LinkedIn.

Thank you.

Social Media Christmas Competition 2012

on 21 November, 2012 No comments as yet -

Social Media Christmas Competition 2012. We’re keeping this simple… 3 categories… 12 business days to vote… closes Friday 7th December 12pm and the WINNERS will be announced the following week… YOU can only enter once… you can sponsor all 3 categories…

We’d like to say thank you for taking 2 minutes out of your day to vote by making you a little more famous than you are right now ;) What have you got that others will wanna win?

For many year’s Google has been king of search, allowing you to find what you are looking for… if you know what you want! Today, I would like to suggest that Google makes total sense if what you are looking for is some new shoes… and if you know the actual shoes then you can find the best price… and if you prefer actual shops, you can use the maps to find the location of the shop with the best offline price that maybe 50 miles away but hey, it’s cheaper! You get the idea…

But the best social media community I am aware of, tell me if I’m wrong, for finding intelligent professional people who can offer you solutions to your business problems… problems that may have some similarities but will be varied and unique in their detail… that social media community is obvioulsy LINKEDIN…

So having a Social Media Christmas Competition that focus on LinkedIn makes total sense… and if I’ve learned anything about competitions it’s to keep it simple… so how about 3 categories and 12 days to vote… prizes will be determined by those who choose to sponsor it… let’s have a gadget show approach and anyone voting can offer a prize if they wish and they will aggregate up as we go… ho, ho, ho Merry Christmas ;)

You don’t have to vote for all 3 categories… just 1 if that’s all you want to vote for… tell us who are you’re WINNERS in 2012

ENTER Berkshire’s Social Media Business Awards

on 11 April, 2012 1 comment so far -

The Social Media Business Awards are just getting under way and looking for entries from around Berkshire UK… only 10 from each town (Bracknell, Maidenhead, Newbury, Reading, Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead, Wokingham) … are you a natural WINNER? What you waiting for?

After Jon won one of Social Media Week’s Awards in 2012 he decided to launch his own Social Media Business Awards and really celebrate each winner, helping them maximise their exposure… but you need to be “In it to WIN it!”

SOCIAL MEDIA BUSINESS AWARDS 2012

    • 100 TOWNS & CITIES ACROSS THE UK
    • 10 LOCAL BUSINESS ENTRIES : FIRST COME FIRST SERVED
    • 3 FINALISTS PRESENT AT LOCAL VENUE
    • 1 WINNER FROM EACH TOWN / CITY

Starting with a call out to Berkshire, so we can celebrate local winners at our event already in the diary for 21st June 2012… the Berkshire in Business EXPO and then, after the Olympics in July and the August summer holidays for the family, we’ll push out with a further 94 events across the Nation.

Working this through in Berkshire, to kick things off, will give us some great learning to apply to the national road-show.

SOCIAL MEDIA BUSINESS AWARDS BERKSHIRE 2012

    • 29th March 2012 we launch a call for local businesses to join in from East Berkshire College’s Careers Day… fitting… with helping to find work for thousands of young people who most definitely need a little light of hope in their lives.

    • First 10 entries from each of the following towns:

      o Bracknell
      o Newbury
      o Reading
      o Slough
      o Windsor & Maidenhead
      o Wokingham

    • Each will be asked to say, in 140 words or less, how they are using the following to grow their business:

o Face 2 Face business networking
o Creation of micro-sites that put SEO company pages
o Use of digital strategies in local newspapers
      o Email marketing campaigns
      o Mobile apps
      o Twitter
      o Facebook
      o YouTube
      o LinkedIn
o Sales team uniform, strategic use of social media engagement

    • Obviously very few companies will be using all of the above and a brilliant example of how just using one channel is paying dividends could well be enough to get your company through to the final 3… being able to give us 140 words on just 3 of the above elements is enough to see you into the first round…

    • THE FIRST 10 ENTRIES FROM EACH TOWN QUALIFY FOR THE FIRST ROUND: Jon won his own award because he was listening and chose to engage. Hundreds of social media people around the UK have bigger databases… they failed to hear the call… Jon had a small database of active listeners who responded to his call… there is an old phrase “You’ve got to be in it to win it!”

    • The Internet is 24/7 and so that is the price of entry… £247 + VAT could make you the inaugural winner of the Social Media Business Awards and no-one can take that away from you…

Social Media Business Awards Entry

On receipt of payment your entry will be registered… only 10 from each town can apply. Thank you.

SOCIAL MEDIA BUSINESS AWARDS BERKSHIRE TIMINGS

For your entry fee, as a minimum, you’ll get a listing on both the local BinB website. We’ll share your own press releases through our Business in Berkshire network until 21st June 2013. BinB gets around 3,000,000 pages views a year, so lots of eyeballs on our world. Our BinB LinkedIn Group has over 1300 members.

If you are lucky enough to progress through the rounds to the final then there will be more publicity shining a light on your business…

CALLING FOR SPONSORS OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA BUSINESS AWARDS

As well as entrants, we are looking for sponsors of the Social Media Business Awards… if you like the sound of the above and the potential it could offer your brand then please call Jon Davey on 01753 852904.

As with all things, as we prove the potential the value of sponsorship will increase… so could be beneficial to get in early and get the best price on the deal!

Thank you.
