Social Media Workshop Windsor, Berkshire
The aim of the social media workshop is to give a clear insight into the areas that make up the world of social media marketing and how they fit together and deliver against the goals that companies set for them in today’s ever more competitive marketplace.
We will look at to how the social media opportunities marketing tools integrate with other marketing techniques and will take particular emphasis on …
Tweaking your Tweets
As you add more streams to your social media profiles you can sometimes end up with a raging torrent of verbal diarrhoea… and not just your own!
You should review your channel streams regularly to ensure they compliment your current strategy and tweak your tweets accordingly.
I made a decision to re-engage with my @jondavey Twitter account recently to balance with Mark’s @linkedinguys feed… Mark and I offer social media training under the Social Media Directors brand and our LinkedIn workshops are proving incredibly popular with business men and women looking to skill up for the 21st century.
Through @linkedinguys Mark offers a professional view of the LinkedIn world with articles around relevant subject matter. The random nature of what catches my eye also needs and airing but I felt it might lower the tone of his feed and so have spun my old @jondavey back into action.
I have made the decision to auto feed content via Google news to the stream on an hourly basis. This content is around LinkedIn, social media events & social media conferences.
I’m looking for more events to list on our www.socialmediaevents.co.uk website and so gathering news and feeding via @jondavey makes good business sense as it gives me a stream of current news that I can check each day, turn into quality articles and add them to the website.
The stream of LinkedIn related articles also provides access to interesting content for our primary area of activity around LinkedIn training under our SMD brand at this time.
I have opted not to follow anyone on the @jondavey account as for me it is a channel for promoting our own activities. There is a tendency for all the social media types to cuddle up in the corner and follow each other in the interests of humanity and the greater good. In my experience this logic ends up equating to, you help me become more famous and I’ll happily take food from your children’s mouths.
Bored with that approach I have cleaned up on the @binbnews and no longer following those in the web / social media space. I only now follow those who are based in Berkshire who are not competitors. This will reflect in the Paper.li/binbnews as it gets published, making for a much better rounded, enjoyable read. BinB also has a great LinkedIn Group with a growing membership of Berkshire based businesses, tune in via www.businessinberkshire.com
Made in Berkshire is a new promotional vehicle that will catch the mood this summer with opportunities for our members to share their greatness through networking events and other ad hoc promotional channels we’ll deploy. Business people will only join your network and become paying members if you offer some added value, made in Berkshire will be significant added value
With @jondavey focussed on our LinkedIn training workshops currently expanding around the South East and @binbnews managing our regional business community channel then that leaves @windsordaily to make its mark.
Living in Windsor, I wanted a local channel to bring the community together. You can’t really do everything you’d like until you retire as time doesn’t permit… but you can give it a go and so I look on Friday’s to be a fun day of activity around www.ilovewindsor.co.uk and the @windsordaily is being auto fed with content around Windsor and over time folk with tune in. @windsordaily we follow anyone who follows us who is based in Windsor… makes for an easy self managing model.
The great thing about social media is that you can tweak your channels as you feel the vibe and turn on and off your energy as you identify what is and what isn’t working for you.
Ultimately the key is to be true to yourself as this is what others are buying into at the end of the day.
Thank you for listening.

Increasing your followers using Hootsuite
A couple of years ago I ran an exercise using Hootsuite and Google News RSS feeds to increase my Twitter following.
I went from 200 to 1000 twitter followers on my @jondavey account in a few weeks which made me smile
At that time I had made a decision to follow anyone who followed me. Word got round and a colleague asked why I was following a bunch of ladies from Russia! Oppps, re-think was needed.
I decided to immediately unfollow all but 13 people and monitor what happened. Within 24 hours I lost 25% of my database, during the following week another third dropped away leaving me with half of what I had originally had.
More recent hands on research has shown me that although many may follow, only a few actually listen to what you have to say and many of those tend to be overseas!
With the launch of I Love Windsor and wishing to tweet regularly but not having the time you need to have a plan B. Revisiting Hootsuite and it appears to have moved on a peg or two with some nice added value. You can create multiple RSS feeds, plug in Google stats, plan, generate reports. A most impressive suite of tools for the budding online business apprentice of the future and the slightly older, less flexible, not so sure business person of today
I have signed up for a PRO account to gain access to the new features and will feedback the results of my engagement through this here blog and you can see for yourself the impact on the Tweets by tuning into @windsordaily and then obviously sharing this news widely with your followers.
Thank you, in anticipation of your first re-tweet

Social influence, what’s your stock worth?
Today I was introduced to Empire Avenue by my new pal Troy Janisch… what a whole bunch of fun that is going to be
I’ve been doing web stuff for 10 years and we currently main line in “Websites that SHINE from LiaiseOnline” and social media workshops with a strong leaning towards LinkedIn, with our How to use LinkedIn for Business workshop.
I run a couple of groups on LinkedIn. One for a community we started back in 2001, Business in Berkshire. The LinkedIn Group was started a couple of years back to act as the discussion space for our members and a place for us to engage with potential new members. The other we started more recently as a place for Social Media Directors to hang out and share their greatness
Today Troy, who works for a big US insurance firm, added an article about Empire Avenue pitching it up just so…
Peddling Influence: Daytrading tips for Empire Avenue
If you’re ‘in the market’ for social influence, then Empire Avenue may be the destination of choice. If so, here are some helpful tips for daytrading. Empire Avenue is a popular ‘social influence’ stock market game. It allows you to peddle the social influence by buying and selling shares of social media…
I had a click and it took me into the billion dollar virtual world of online gaming… but this is real fun and I have got to learn more… my stock is flying… snap shot at 13 but now heading for 19 Eaves, the local currency…
I would normally obviously add the link to Troy’s article above but I want you to use MY link to visit Empire Avenue and start building your own value… as we both get some bonus Eaves to buy like tons of stock and maybe some virtual sweets that will make us like virtually fat!
Gosh… if this is what virtual dollars feel like I don’t think I could handle the real thing
Go give it a spin… www.empireavenue.com
Thank you
