Who owns YOUR social network?

Over the past couple of weeks, as is so often the case at the moment, I’ve had a number of enquiries from different social networks, or rather from certain of their members, asking me to join their networks. Granted, many of these are automated – which amounts to spamming by the website owners in my view, but that’s another story – but this has nevertheless been a clear demonstration of the continuing growth and proliferation of social networks.

Networks and networking in general are hugely important to businesses of all sizes and small businesses in particular. Therefore joining these social networks or business networks is undeniably useful to a point

RSS Benefits for Businesses

RSS Series
For me, RSS is very much a Clark Kent figure – not particularly impressive on the outside but lots of hidden “super powers” underneath. Am I overstating that a little? Well you decide. To start, let’s have a quick run through of some of the elements that RSS can do for the information you publish in your business or blog:

i) Instant Publishing and Automatic distribution
As you publish new posts and information on your blog, RSS publishes them automatically on any additional sites that have decided to syndicate your content. This allows you to concentrate on the quality of your content and lets your RSS feed distribute it for you to all the places and people who have requested it, automatically and instantly.

ii) Direct guaranteed delivery to subscribers
You can be safe in the knowledge that your subscribers will receive the information

Being found via Social Media and Business Blogs

Mark White, Social Media Specialist on 23 February, 2010 No comments as yet -

One of my preferred analogies when talking about social media and online marketing is the concept of spreading “welcome mats” around the internet. The more individually tailored mats you can make (and strategically place!), the more chance you have of being found in an increasingly competitive online market … and of course the better the chance of developing those all important contacts and relationships.

What’s a Welcome Mat?

So, what do I mean by “welcome mats”? In my opinion, they come in many shapes and forms but are essentially places on the web where you invite people back to your website or blog by introducing yourself (perhaps through something you have written or via a reference or recommendation) and making contact with them. This then boils down to a “doorway” back to your site indicated by a “welcome mat”.
